Description:

Dr. Eisenberg will discuss the future of nutrition education for physicians and other health professionals. He will draw on (1) his experiences in the 1970’s and 1980’s while in medical school, while serving as the first US Medical Exchange Student to the People’s Republic of China, and during his residency and fellowship training; (2) his launch and 20+ year oversight of the annual “Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives” conferences; (3) his establishment and prior leadership of the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative; and (4) his recent research relating to the publication, “Proposed Nutrition Competencies for Medical Students and Physician Trainees- A Consensus Statement” published in JAMA Network Open in September, 2024

Speaker Bio:

From 2000-2010, Dr. Eisenberg served as the Bernard Osher Distinguished Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, founding director of the Osher Research Center and the founding chief of the Division for Research and Education in Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies at Harvard Medical School. He simultaneously served as the director of the Program in Integrative Medicine at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He has directed the annual Harvard Chan School of Public Health education conference, “Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives” (www.Healthykitchens.org) since 2006. In 2015 Dr. Eisenberg founded the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative (www.teachingkitchens.org), a network of 68 organizations with teaching kitchens, intended to evaluate best practices relating to nutrition, culinary and lifestyle education. David aspires to synergize the culinary and medical communities to enhance human and planetary health.
