Description:
Dr. Jackyln Foley will present on “Development of a Multimodal Cardiovascular Disease Risk Reduction Intervention for Older People with HIV.” She will explore formative data and then describe the intervention that is currently being piloted. Dr. Manglani-Terranova will present on “The Rug Got Pulled Out From Underneath Us: Psychosocial Experiences and Treatment Needs of People with Multiple Sclerosis and their Partners in the First Year After Diagnosis.” She will present a combination of qualitative and quantitative results which reveal both need and interest in whole person health. Dr. Joesph Rosansky will present on “The Role of Mindfulness Training in the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder.” He will explore the role of mindfulness training for treating opioid use disorder (OUD) and addressing this national emergency. Mindfulness training is a particularly promising treatment for OUD because it targets both top-down (i.e., improved cognitive control) and bottom-up (i.e., reduced emotional/physiological reactivity) processes involved in opioid use.
Speaker Bios:
Dr. Jacklyn Foley is a licensed clinical psychologist and researcher in the Behavioral Medicine Program at Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry. Her clinical and research focus is on developing mindfulness-based, multimodal interventions for medical populations with specializations in HIV, aging, and cardiovascular health outcomes.
Dr. Heena Manglani-Terranova’s research focuses on mind-body approaches to improve the psychological and social well-being of individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their care partners—together referred to as MS dyads. Her research uniquely focuses on the acute period following diagnosis. This period is critical as emotional distress can accelerate disease progression and impair functioning.
