Acupuncture for Women’s Health: Findings and Lessons Learned from Norwegian Trials Targeting Postmenopausal Hot Flashes and Recurring Urinary Tract Infections

Dr. Terje Alræk is a Senior Researcher at the National Research Center in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NAFKAM), University of Tromsø, Norway. He is also the director of the Norway-China collaboration within TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Since 2011, he has held a position as an Associate Professor at the University College of Health Sciences, Institute of Acupuncture, Olso, Norway.  Dr. Alræk was trained in acupuncture at the International College of Oriental Medicine in the UK and has been a clinical acupuncturist since 1982. He received his PhD at the University of Bergen, where he then went on to be a research fellow. Dr. Alræk’s main areas of publications have been on acupuncture and women’s health issues, including postmenopausal hot flashes in healthy women, the ACUFLASH study. His current interest in research lies in the area of reliability and validity of TCM diagnosis and also in the effect of acupuncture treatment on autonomic regulation.
