Title: The Arc & Trajectory of the SMART-3RP Program
Presenter: Elyse Park, PhD | Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital
Presentation Description:
This presentation presents the conceptualization of resiliency and the core components of the Stress Management and Resiliency Intervention Research Program. It includes an overview of theories that inform this multimodal intervention, and corresponding assessment. Dr. Park presents research that she and her research team has conducted with individuals living with chronic illness, caregivers and clinicians, and community-based research. She will describe the process of developing interventions, adapting interventions, and creating implementation evaluations. She highlighted digital modalities to deliver the SMART-3RP and her focus on creating interventions that are widely accessible.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Park is a Professor in Psychiatry & Medicine at MGH/HMS and founded the MGH Health Promotion & Resiliency Intervention Research Center. This is a multidisciplinary center in the departments of Psychiatry & Medicine. As a clinical health psychologist and health services researcher, Dr. Park directs the research at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at MGH.
The primary focus of her research is on the integration and implementation of resiliency and behavioral interventions into cancer clinical care, healthcare systems and communities. Dedicated to remote clinical care delivery and clinical research, her research is dedicated to furthering the development and implementation of accessible, digital interventions.
She created the Stress Management and Resiliency Training: Relaxation Response Resiliency Program (SMART-3RP) and has conducted randomized pilot trials adapting the SMART-3RP to meet the needs of medical patients (e.g., patients with cancer, survivors, perinatal women), professional caregivers (cancer interpreters, palliative care clinicians, frontline clinicians), and community-based populations (parents of children with special needs, veterans).
