Description

Fear of recurrence (FOR) is a potent concern facing cancer survivors, an ever-increasing population due to continued advances in treatments and early detection. Managing FOR and uncertainty about bodily symptoms, new roles, and the potential for recurrence can be difficult.

In this presentation Dr. Hall reviewed empirical support for mind-body skills that can help cancer survivors cope effectively with FOR. The research was brought to life by a cancer survivor’s experiences applying these techniques in a novel program currently undergoing pilot testing at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).

A panel of oncology care providers answered questions from the audience. The providers’ support complemented the patient’s mind-body practices and helped her to “tame the fear of recurrence monster.”
